Small spaces can be a bothersome area to work with, there is a fine line between having everything just right and overcrowding the space. So what can we do?
Firstly, colour or the lack there-of. While rich contrasting colours can elevate a room, add a touch of class or break-up the shape, there isn't much space for it in a small room. Instead, go for subtle colours, nothing too dramatic or too loud. Soft colours or even white can work wonders.
Now, furniture, be led by the space. Even the most beautiful piece of furniture in the world will look amiss if it doesn't have the proper space to frame it. as with the walls, think light colours and go for space-saving alternatives. Think about what you use the room for and evict anything that isn't necessary. In small spaces, it's all about fine lines and function.
Think OVERSIZE rugs, the bigger the better in a big or small space. In a Living room rugs should go right under and to the back of each sofa. This will make the space seem bigger and more "expensive".
Next, mirrors, while you don't want to plaster the walls with mirrors, try placing a ceiling to floor mirror opposite a window to harness the most of any natural light available.
Light is your friend, shadows are not. Maximising space and maximising light should be one and the same. Using multiple wall lights might work better for you than a ceiling light with a hefty shade.
